Notes

  • Unless there are objections the GIS TAC will be meeting more frequently. Scheduled in advance. Afternoons for at least 30 minutes. If there are no agenda items, or too many planned absences, the meeting will be canceled.
  • Elections for TAC chair and secretary will be held at the next meeting.
  • GIS-USERS group meeting needs to be scheduled, and lead election must take place.
  • East View Information Services - Will be coming to talk to Libraries and anyone else interested in their products July 31st at 2pm. Anyone interested in attending should contact Robert first (robert-shepard@uiowa.edu). Robert plans to send an announcement to the GIS-USERS listserv.
  • Special Collections hiring student position in the fall.
  • Obtaining 30 licenses for Agisoft PhotoScan Pro. Contact Nick for more details (nicholas-carino-marek@uiowa.edu).
  • Beer Caves Talks at Big Grove this fall in Sept. Contact Michelle for more details (michelle-wienhold@uiowa.edu).
  • State Archeologist office has funded project to perform rock art scans in Iowa. If you would like to help with the project, contact Michelle for more details.
  • President Hoover's birth place home will be scanned as well. Contact Adam for more details (adam-skibbe@uiowa.edu).
  • Michelle is seeking GISP certification. She is willing to co-study with anyone for fall exam. She might present a post-exam talk about experience/worthiness of GISP. Contact Michelle if you are interested in co-study..
  • Flood Center - Some positions have been extended and some student positions have been filled for upcoming projects.
  • ITS Info center page has been changed from /gis to /esri. https://its.uiowa.edu/esri More changes to content will be happening. A redirect is in place, but old paths should be updated. Contact Joe for more information (joe-whitsitt@uiowa.edu).
  • 2017-07-19 12-1pm - The ESRI ArcGIS license manager will be updated  to version 10.5.1 on gislm.iowa.uiowa.edu during this time.  A brief outage will occur during the upgrade. https://its.uiowa.edu/node/109391
  • Facilities is mainly focusing on their master plan work.
  • Adam is now chair of IGIC. Plans to host October meeting in Iowa City.
  • GEOCON has been postponed and may be discontinued going forward due to scheduling conflicts/attendance.
  • MAGIC will be in Omaha in April.
  • ISIT is another conference that seems to have a good mix of geography/technology. Next conference is in June in West Des Moines.
  • Security reports have been completed on the ESRI product suite. As a follow-up, language going forward will need to be more clear about the different titles, support, installation instructions, recommended versions on the websites we maintain.
  • City of Iowa City has filled a GIS Coordinator position.
  • GIS Day 2017
    • Looking into holding it early to avoid Thanksgiving break, finals.
    • Going to take initiative in streaming/recording talks to share with other CIC schools. Hopefully in the future others will do so too so there is less pressure on the GIS TAC schedule a full day of events.
    • Geocaching/Contests will be announced ahead of GIS Day going forward results can be announced on the celebrated date.
