Notes

EIGIS

For those who are interested, Adam can drive three others. If there is a lot of interest he may look into renting a van.

User Group

Michelle is thinking a daytime meet and greet either September 29 or 30th. Looking to ramp up with possible brown bag presentations, etc.

Accessibility Follow-Up

For the map in question at the previous meeting, Jay has decided to provide contact information and a download of the dataset. As new map projects are created, he will think about doing the same. Unfortunately, he is at the mercy of ESRI's product, and there isn't a more accessible tool available right now for mapping.

Jay says he might get in contact with ESRI to see what they are doing to make their product more accessible.

The group will be on the lookout for new tech that allows greater accessibility that may serve as an alternative.

Site License Update

IGIC handles the license for the state. UI will be paying much less than in the past. The license gives the state three "contacts." ISU has one, Upper Iowa has one, and there is one more held by someone. UI pays for three additional.

IGIC might be looking into do doing some cost recovery in the future, but it will have no impact on the actual license (installs, etc.). Any savings will go towards conferences, etc.

Get on the IGIC mailing list if you want to be considered for one of the open ESRI Conference seats.

Trainings

There will be a couple of trainings coming up. Going forward, event promotion and video recordings are encouraged.

GIS Day

Joe looked at the IMU Theatre Room for a possible GIS Day Live Stream location. GIS Week Mon-Wed and Friday to about 5pm is currently open. Thursday is booked. What are the possible live stream events/times?

Adam consulted with Sarah (museums) for explorer series talks.  This year slightly different approach:

  • Thursday Evening 6:30-7:00pm discussion and demos for crowd - if interested
  • 7:00 - 8:00 ish - talks (currently have Dr. Liz Ridder, myself, on as speakers, 1-2 more preferred... Rob?)
  • Additional brownbag version of this the Tuesday (the 17th), same location, same talks, different audience hopefully

LiDAR Brewery Caves

Adam and Michelle are looking into doing a LiDAR scan of the north side brewery caves. Cool!

La Crosse Conference

The conference planning is moving forward for the end of May.
